Felton key part of murder investigation

Recent stories

State Emergency Service volunteers were on their hands and knees last week, helping police search for clues tied to the murder of Thor Morgan in Toowoomba back in March.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker from the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch said on 2 March a stolen Mitsubishi ASX had been found torched on Tyson Road approximately 30 metres from Toowoomba Karara Road.

“What we do believe is that a person involved was also involved in discharging a firearm at that spot, firing a number of shots across this road,” Senior Sgt McCusker said.

“We believe that firearm is linked to the shooting death of Mr Morgan.”

Mr Morgan, aged 25, was fatally shot in Harlaxton.

The bullet hole in a guide post was found on Kessler Road, which forms an intersection with Tyson and Toowoomba Karara roads.

Tyson Road is also signed as Homestead Road.

Senior Sergeant McCusker said the search last Friday was an attempt to find any spent rounds that may have been left on the roadside.

Police had received several calls from the public after the vehicle had been burnt out.

Senior Sergeant McCusker said police are still hoping someone may have seen something.

“There may have been a case where someone from the public may have come past, seen some people on the side of the road or given anyone a lift from this spot should come forward to police,” he said.

“Any information at all would be great.”

He said the investigation is progressing along very well.

“In depth jobs take a lot of time, a lot of staff but we will not stop and we will get a result with respect to who shot Mr Morgan on the 15th of March.”

A 27-years-old Rosenthal Heights man has been charged with arson in relation to the Mitsubishi.

He is next scheduled to appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on August 10.

A 22-years-old Newtown man was charged in relation to the theft of a Honda H-V SUV that was also torched and a related break and enter. He was sentenced before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on April 4.

It is not alleged by police that either of the men were involved in Mr Morgan’s murder.
