The Chief Minister announced Territory Day celebrations across the NT are deferred due to the unfolding COVID situation in Darwin.
Fireworks were not for sale yesterday, anywhere in the Territory, as planned.
Territory Day will go ahead at a later date so we can all celebrate together.
The Chief Minister said: “ Once we are through this, we will name a new date, and we will have one hell of a party, as one Territory. I promise you.”
Lockdown restrictions only apply in the Greater Darwin area and Alice Springs.
It’s business as usual in Tennant Creek and throughout the Barkly. Shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs can operate as usual and the annual Show can proceed as planned.
The Alice Springs Show which was due to happen today was cancelled due to the lockdown.
Local NAIDOC Week celebrations which were due to kick off next week have been postponed as well. Stay tuned for the new dates of both Territory Day and NAIDOC Week activities.
And remember, you can still pre-order your fireworks ready for the big day by emailing Tennant Creek Freight Lines at tcfreight@live.com.
