Farcical discus final
Due to the conditions in Tokyo Matthew Denny threw well below his best. Torrential rain and a wet, slippy throwing circle were not ideal for the discus final held on Sunday night at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo.
Matthew smashes his own pb
It’s been an amazing week for Matthew Denny at the Oklahoma Throws Series World International. With a mammoth throw of 74.78cm and his personal best Matthew would have broken the previous World Record if not for his main rival Mykolas Alekna who threw 75.56m.
Matthew rewrites Australia’s sporting history
Olympic bronze medallist Matthew Denny has etched his name even deeper into Australian athletics history, unleashing a phenomenal 72.07m throw to become the first Australian to eclipse the 70-metre mark and land the fifth longest throw in global history.
One last throw for Matthew … before he heads to the United States, chasing history
Allora’s hero Matthew Denny is recognised as one of Australia’s most dominant athletes and will make his final competitive appearance for 2025 at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne on March 29.
Total support for Matthew’s legacy
The remarkable achievements of 2024 Paris Olympian bronze medallist Matthew Denny will be celebrated with two significant legacy projects in Allora. The local community was invited to vote on two proposals. It’s obvious – Allora loves Matthew
Not just because he’s an Olympic Champion but because he’s a wonderful role model and a really nice bloke. This last weekend was put aside for Matthew Denny - Allora’s favourite son. Friday saw the popular Street Parade, official welcome at the Sports Museum, afternoon tea in our Community Hall and dinner at night.
Matthew wins at Brussels
Only weeks after bringing home the bronze medal from the Paris Olympics Matthew Denny has excelled at the Diamond League held in Brussels at the weekend. With an opening round throw of 69.96m Matthew took out the discus final for the second straight year and broke the 40 year old meet record.
Matthew creates history
Matthew Denny is Australia’s first male discus thrower to win a medal at the Olympics. Matthew is also the only Olympian to come from Allora.
A champion – going for gold
That’s Allora’s Matthew Denny who is currently in Paris for the Olympic Games. In 2015 Matthew made his Senior Debut with the Australia Team for the World University Games. Since then Matthew has been improving with each national competition and breaking records along the way.
It’s a winner just like Matthew
This huge mural of Matthew Denny has attracted plenty of attention in Allora since being completed last Friday. The mural, commissioned by Qantas, has been painted on the side of the Railway Hotel.
