Matthew Denny thrilled the crowds at the Australian Athletics Championships held in Adelaide over the weekend. Producing his best effort, Matthew threw a huge 69.35 metres which added over one metre to his previous top throw and creating a National Record.

Matthew has cemented his status as one of the world’s premier athletes after being crowned champion at the Diamond League Final in Eugene, USA with an Australian record of 68.43 meters. This is the first time for Matthew to be crowned Diamond League Champion. He added 19cm to his Australian discus record to produce the throw of his life and seal his triumph.

Speaking about his gold medal performance at the Bermingham Commonwealth Games, Denny said he was very relaxed. “I was having fun - I compete at my best when I’m having fun,” he said.

Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and local hero Matthew Denny never forgets his home town of Allora. During an interview on Channel 7 Matthew said “Hello to everyone back in Allora. Thank you Allora for supporting me” and to John - “Dad we got it done, Mate!” During one interview he made reference to the Welcome Home Parade after Tokyo when he came 4th so maybe this time Allora will be given a public holiday?
