Murray Industrial Hemp (MIH) is thrilled with news the NSW Government has granted $10 million for a new hemp manufacturing business in Barham ... MIH will use the government funding, along with investments from local and national shareholders, to build industrial hemp processing and block manufacturing facilities in Barham.

Located next to the iconic Bush Theatre, HempScape is the brainchild of Andrew Kavasilas, a pioneer in the Australian hemp industry who has long been at the forefront of the hemp movement in Australia.

Victorian Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence has launched public consultation on proposed new legislation, inviting Victorians to share their priorities for the industry, what’s working under current laws and ideas for improvement.

An experimental crop of industrial hemp proved too strong for Cyclone Alfred when it pounded paddocks at Gatton last week. Only one week ahead of harvest, the small plot of low-THC hemp withstood winds gusting up to 125 km/h and the floods accompanying the once-in-50-year weather event.

Local producers flocked to the farm of Michael and Felicia Chalmers this week to check out a towering three-and-a-half-metre-tall crop of hemp. “I became aware that Murray Industrial Hemp (MIH), through Western Murray Land Improvement Group, was looking for farmers to have a go at growing some hemp as a trial,” said Michael Chalmers when questioned “Why hemp?”

The so-called “clean green” warriors of today are too busy waving banners against petroleum products to notice – or care – that the natural fibre industry has been driven to the brink. The irony, of course, is as glaring as a newly-shorn sheep.

Murray Industrial Hemp has attracted initial investors with limited spots left for those who see a bright future in building products made from the miracle plant.
