Power line safety reminder after teenager’s serious injuries

WA’s energy safety regulator is investigating an incident in Gnangara in which a teenager is believed to have received an electric shock from high-voltage power lines while clearing vegetation. Building and Energy electrical inspectors were at the property where witness accounts indicated the teenager sustained serious hand and other injuries after his trimming equipment made contact with the power lines, causing the electric current to pass through his body.

Illegal marron fishers busted in the Moore River

Last month Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development compliance officers conducted a joint operation with Lancelin Police to apprehend people fishing for marron in the Moore River ... The fishers were busted with more than 30 pieces of fishing gear and were fishing out of season, which makes any marron fishing activity illegal.

Three arrested south of Moore River during big drug bust

An international covert operation – including the arrest of three people on the beach south of Moore River – has prevented a record 2.4 tonnes of cocaine from entering Western Australia, according to WA Police. The operation, dubbed Operation Beech, resulted in the arrest of 12 people, with the cocaine linked to a Mexican drug cartel.

Moore River bacteria update

Recent tests have confirmed bacteria levels in the Moore River have returned to the acceptable range, as is usual for this time of year, according to the Shire of Gingin. But shire staff are continuing to monitor the levels in consultation with the Department of Health.
