Promising mining prospects in the Barkly

Resource companies are seeing some very promising results in Tennant Creek and the broader Barkly region, supported by new geoscience data and exploration grants from the Territory Government ... Emmerson Resources Limited has been searching for gold at its exploration sites near Tennant Creek and their recent gold intercept results are very encouraging.

Tennant Creek celebrates our First Nations achievers

It may have been two weeks late, but our local NAIDOC Committee was determined that the events they had planned would go ahead as soon as it was safe to do so, so Monday morning marchers gathered outside the NLC office for the walk to Nyinkka Nyunyu to celebrate NAIDOC Week. The weather was kind to the marchers with little wind and beautiful sunshine as they made their way down Paterson Street, even the police vehicle that led the march was carrying Aboriginal flags on the bonnet, in keeping with the day.

Nominations open for Council elections

Nominations are now open for the 2021 Local Government Elections. Barkly Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin will be standing to retain the role while word about town Councillor Hal Ruger may also throw his hat in the ring. Cr Ruger has a long history with Council, with his father Paul elected as Tennant Creek Mayor in 1999.

Multi-million dollar farm in the Barkly to boost region’s economy

A representative from the Singleton Horticulture Project was in Tennant this week to chat with businesses and stakeholders about the future of the almost 3,000 square kilometre horticulture lease which will be used to grow grapes and rockmelons. The multi-million dollar project at Singleton Station will be developed in four stages over an eight year period and expected to create thousands of jobs each year in the region.

Markets remain a Saturday favourite

Catherine Grimley. The Community Lawn sale remains a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Even though it was a little quiet, stallholders still served the needs of locals looking for something different or tasty, with Wan’s Asian food, hand-made earrings from Barkly Bliss and baked goods from the CWA ladies amongst others.

Mining Minister inspects promising Rover project

Mining Minister Nicole Manison was in town to check out the progress of the highly anticipated Castile Resources’ Rover 1 project, 80km south-west of Tennant Creek. ... The Rover 1 project is targeting high grade gold and copper zones associated with massive magnetite ironstone (IOCG), similar to the mines around Tennant Creek.

Prison sentence for woman who bashed uncle with metal pole

A 44-year-old Alpurrurulam woman has been imprisoned after pleading guilty to causing serious harm to her 55-year-old uncle ... The sentence was suspended on the conditions she not drink alcohol, be under parole for two years and nine months, be subject to the Alternative to Custody Program for two years and nine months, be under the electronic monitoring program and not leave the Northern Territory without permission and not approach her uncle.
