After a thorough investigation, the Banking Code Compliance Committee (BCCC) has found that Westpac breached its obligations under the Banking Code of Practice over its handling of its Tennant Creek branch closure in September 2022. The BCCC has determined that Westpac failed to comply with the ABA Branch Closure Protocol and did not provide adequate support to affected customers in the remote Tennant Creek community during the transition period.

The Board of Tennant Creek Transport announced this week that all their services, including the door-to-door service, town bus, and the Greyhound Connect service, will cease operations effective from Sunday. Despite being financially stable, the service has encountered persistent issues that finally rendered its continuation impossible, chiefly the ongoing struggle to recruit and retain an adequate number of drivers.

The first Residential Youth Justice Facility in Tennant Creek is set to open this week. The facility, located in Juno about seven kilometres east of the town, will be able to accommodate up to six youth involved in the justice system until a purpose-built facility is completed.

After yesterday’s official dismissal of the members of Barkly Regional Council, Local Government Minister Chansey Paech has stated it was not a decision he took lightly. Minister Paech says, however, that it was necessary to ensure the effective operation of BRC for the region’s community.

Tennant Creek police arrested a man in connection with a serious domestic violence incident in Tennant Creek ... a woman was assaulted with a broken bottle at a local service station between Williams Street and the Stuart Highway. The victim was rushed to Tennant Creek Hospital with serious facial injuries.

A man has been charged by the local police for involvement in illegal drug activities in the Tennant Creek region ... A drug detection dog named Callen assisted in locating a commercial quantity of cannabis buried under spinifex bushes in the surrounding area.
