Ag Speak – Budget must grow and protect agriculture

NFF President Fiona Simson said the 43 recommendations in the peak farming body’s Pre-Budget Submission were built around its 2030 Roadmap and high on the list was the missing link in Australia’s defence against looming and existing biosecurity threats like Foot and Mouth Disease, Lumpy Skin Disease and Varroa Mite.

200 flock to Q&A

Almost 200 people crowded into the Town Hall last week to ask questions and learn more about the two mayoral candidates, and 12 of the 16 candidates standing for Naracoorte Lucindale Council. In order of their positions on the ballot paper, esteemed MC Glen Hamlyn asked the first question of the Q&A event organiser and mayoral candidate Patrick Ross, then Erika Vickery. “Having not been a councillor before, do you feel you understand the system enough to take on the mayoral role?” Mr Hamlyn asked.

Buyers keen to return and invest in Janmac genetics

The Hausler family of Janmac Poll Dorsets and White Suffolks held their 18th annual on-property sale at Goroke, Victoria, on Wednesday, selling rams to a top of $7000.

Blessing of the fleece

The fifth Bishop of the Diocese of the Murray, the Right Rev Keith Dalby is coming to St Paul’s Naracoorte on 30 October 2022 for the Blessing of the Fleece. “Shearing sheep is something quintessentially Australian”, he said “and it is a great honour to be blessing this act”.

People power: Big crowd for Q&A event

Winding up last week’s Q&A event “by popular demand” in the Town Hall, esteemed local MC Glen Hamlyn acknowledged the two mayoral and 11 Naracoorte Lucindale Council (NLC) candidates as “fantastic”. He turned to the crowd of almost 200 people and said they had “a very difficult task of choosing the top 10 candidates out of this group”.

Naracoorte Eisteddfod

Erica Boyington, Meredith Schinckel. August 12 and 13th saw fifteen young Naracoorte musicians travel plus one adult musician travel to Mt Gambier to compete in the music division of the Eisteddfod, held at Wehl Street theatre. An Eisteddfod is a wonderful opportunity for budding musicians to gain practice and confidence with performing, while benefitting from expert feedback.

State Government called to investigate medical hub secrecy

Trixi Oldfield. An angered group of Tatiara residents has called on the State Government to investigate Tatiara District Council’s “veil of secrecy” surrounding Bordertown’s proposed new medical hub. Des Murray, Peter Grosser, Bryan Paech and John O’Brien, have written to Local Government Minister, Geoff Brock, asking him to “look into” council’s lack of consultation particularly about “the use of community land purchased to develop medical amenities”.
