College ranks in top ten

Year 12 students, staff and parents of Corryong College are celebrating following the release of the 2023 Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) results on Monday. The exceptional results were highlighted by Nicola Costello attaining an ATAR of 95.95 which saw her awarded the Rotary Club’s Dux of the College.

Basin book aims to educate

A new book about the rivers and wetlands of the Murray-Darling Basin includes information about the Upper Murray and is now on its way to thousands of primary schools across Australia. Commissioned by the Jane Goodall Institute in London and Sydney, the book was written by the Petaurus Education Group in Albury-Wodonga.

President saddles up again

Broken promise leads to paltry payout

The Victorian government’s support package to stranded native timber workers, announced on Friday, is a final slap in the face to an industry on death row, according to Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Emma Kealy ... "Industry leaders confirm that in effect haulage operators will be offered just 50 cents in the dollar for the next year and harvesting contractors 30 cents in the dollar for the remaining term of their contract, some of which conclude as soon as mid- 2024. This does not offer the length of security they deserve," Ms Kealy said.

Highway works set to start

Even though additional funding for local road maintenance was welcomed last week by Member for Indi, Helen Haines, and she said it must be made available as a matter of urgency. A case in point is the Murray Valley Highway between Corryong and Wodonga where motorists continue to face delays at two locations near Old Tallangatta where traffic lights have been installed and one lane closed where subsidence has occurred.

International bond helps food charity

It was a memorable occasion last Friday when local food pantry provider, Corryong FoodShare Services, offically opened its new premises in Harris Street. The honours were carried out by Member for Indi, Helen Haines, and the French Ambassador to Australia, Jean-Pierre Thebault.
