Stripping right to appeal is an insult to regional communities
Independent Federal Member for Indi, Helen Haines, has written to the Victorian government expressing her dismay with its decision to remove the right for third parties to appeal renewable energy planning decisions through VCAT ... In her letter to the Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosia and Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny, Dr Haines expressed concern that under the current system, there are not enough safeguards to ensure communities are heard and their issues acted upon by developers.
Festival goers roll in – the fun begins
People have been flocking into Corryong this week for the 29th edition of The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival which officially starts today. The festival promises rugged adventure and a celebration of traditional Australian culture.

Festival caters for family fun
Preparations are in full swing for this year’s Man From Snowy River Bush Festival (April 11th-14th) which is expected to be one of the best attended and most successful in its 29-year history. "We are genuinely excited with what we have in front of us in delivering the 2024 festival," said festival chairman, Cameron Jackson.
‘There’s trouble at t’mill’
Local CFA brigades attended a fire at Walkers sawmill in Corryong on Friday night which destroyed electrical equipment, necessary for the production of kindling. Two on-site mill workers heard a series of popping noises, similar to gunshots, around 10.30pm before noticing flames coming from the main processing area.

Local CFA volunteers were seen in trucks and in Corryong’s main street on Good Friday, raising money for The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Appeal and once again the Upper Murray community and holiday visitors dug deep for the cause.
Church reaches milestone
A decade ago the future of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Cudgewa looked bleak. The floor was riddled with white ants and the inside was in great need of patching and painting. Much discussion was held on whether it would remain open considering the nature of the repairs needed and dwindling church attendance.
Wild dog program could close
"The order was renewed last year for only 12 months, during which time farmers and other stakeholders were promised consultation and a count of the wild dog population across Victoria," said Libbe Paton, North East Wild Dog Action Group. "Neither of these promises have been upheld to date."
