Kirstin Nicholson. There has been a buzz of activity amongst the Cohuna Lions Club’s Leos and Cubs. The Leos and Cubs, which comprise children aged 9 to 18, have been busy sewing items for children in flood-affected Lismore, New South Wales.

State awards for Wakool Show

Joan de Bondt. Each year, the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW (ASC) recognises the excellence, dedication, resilience and innovation of agricultural show volunteers across the state. The joint winners of the ASC Dedication Award for 2022 are June Lowry and George Rathbone from Wakool Show.

ANZAC Day 2022 – Koondrook Barham

Proposed bridge closure causes panic

Helen Dalton held a community meeting at the Tooleybuc Sporting Club on Thursday, April 14 to address concerns with residents that the Tooleybuc Bridge would be hard closed for six weeks to complete repair works. With the bridge being a lifeline for the border community and the major transport route for trucks travelling to and from Adelaide to Sydney, locals feared that the closure would be the final nail in the coffin for local businesses.

Tobacco bust at Thule

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has seized and destroyed over 276,000 kilograms of illicit tobacco across two separate properties in regional NSW. Illicit tobacco equivalent to the weight of approximately 14 bulldozers was seized, with a total estimated foregone excise value of more than $52 million.

Ecumenical service in the park

Kirstin Nicholson. Members of Cohuna’s churches gathered on Good Friday for an ecumenical service of the passion of Christ at the Catholic Church. Following the service, members walked to the Gateway Visitor Centre in Garden Park for a short prayer service.

Kerang tops tennis

Kendall Jennings. Over 340 players hit the Kerang Lawn Tennis courts for the year's major fundraising event. The 2022 Kerang Easter Carnival was held from Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18. The numbers this year were slightly down from last year, with 2021 breaking all participation records due to COVID-19 restrictions easing.

Kendall Jennings. The annual Kerang Turf Club Easter Races was once again a drawcard for Kerang with its seven-race afternoon on Saturday, April 16. In superb weather, punters were treated to fashions on the field, Easter Bunny and spectacular racing on the iconic flood irrigated circuit.
