Happy crowds, town-wide earnings and welcome tips
Maldon’s annual Town-Wide Garage Sale made for a busy Saturday in and across town. With just shy of 70 households opening their gates and putting their unwanted treasures out for sale, the cash was flowing, and visitors and locals alike enjoyed wandering amongst the diverse collection of stuff on show.
Blokes on postie bikes delivering prostate cancer awareness
Chair of the not-for-profit foundation Robert Glover told the Times, “We’ve raised over 1.5 million dollars since the beginning, and every dollar we raise goes to the cause. We pay for our own petrol, accommodation and food. The funds raised have provided transperineal biopsy machines and specialist care for rural hospitals around Australia, and today’s ride will assist in providing two more machines, one for a hospital in Shepparton and another for Hobart.”
Growing Abundance is back!
Growing Abundance helps minimise food waste in our community by organising volunteers to help pick the fruit that isn’t able to be harvested by the owners. We are doing a call out for anyone who has excess fruit on their trees that they are willing and wishing to get help harvesting and distributing.
New mining exploration licence
A number of local residents have expressed their concern regarding an application for a new mining exploration licence. One resident told the Times, “I am concerned about the size of the exploration licence that has been applied for, especially in relation to the historic and scientific significant mining landscape that may be damaged.

Explore the dark side in Maldon this winter
Maldon will host the inaugural Goldfields Gothic Festival of Dark Ideas this July. As part of the town’s annual Maldon in Winter series, the new festival celebrates the dark side of the goldfields with performances, tours, themed food experiences, conversations on dark topics and a range of strange and unforgettable happenings sure to surprise, delight, incite and excite you.
Is this Australia’s oldest bakery?
When the Maldon Historic Bakery business went up for sale last month, landlords Mark and Valentina Tansley decided to do some research into the bakery’s history. “We know that the bakery was established on this site in 1854 and that the wood-fired brick scotch oven is one of the oldest brick buildings in town,” said Valentina.
The Peter Turner Memorial Show and Shine
Steve Cole. The Peter Turner memorial Show and Shine will allow the Guildford Grumpies Car Club Inc. and visitors to pay their respects to their cherished former President. The Show and Shine will feature a huge range of veteran and vintage cars and motorbikes, along with an array of community stalls, live bands, displays and raffles ... at John Powell Reserve in Guildford on Sunday 27 March.
