Shadow beings: Juana Beltran
From Saturday 25th March Horsham Regional Art Gallery invites the community to celebrate up and coming Spanish born, Ararat-based artist Juana Beltran in her transformative reflection of her time in the Australian desert. Formed from the desert plains, the human-like figures which form the body of work in the exhibition project shadows that represent a reflection of our other selves.
Luv-A-Duck plans for growth
Luv-A-Duck was founded by the late Art Shoppee back in 1968, when he started out with just 20 ducklings. Today it grows and supplies 5 million ducks annually for food service and retail markets within Australia and overseas ... To support the growth plans, current Family Directors, Theresa Sfetkidis and Kim Shoppee-Lynch, are in the final phase of choosing a business partner, to take a major stake in the business.
Doyle’s IGA crowned community award winner
Kaniva’s Doyle’s IGA supermarket was recently crowned community award of the year at the IGA retail Excellence Awards held at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. Doyle’s IGA was nominated in three categories, small format Meat Department of the year, small format Grocery Department of the year and the Community Award.
Expanding market for Wimmera Southern Mallee produce
Wimmera Harvest Fare, a joint Wimmera Development Association and Centre for Participation project, was launched earlier this month. The new initiative offers independent supermarkets the opportunity to showcase a variety of products from the 13 participating food producers from across the region, to enhance local access and to boost tourist access to regionally made food.
Austin shears over 500!
What a fantastic effort shearing 503 xb lambs in a day by young lad Doltan Austin. Simply put, that’s one lamb every 57 seconds of a standard eight-hour shearing day. Jason “Chippa’ Gordon said, “I have been a student of shearing exploits for many years and I can’t recall a feat ever achieved like this in the area.”
The rise and fall of Nhill’s bread
John Williams. Bread has historically been intrinsically woven and responsible for large parts of how civilisations and cultures have grown and is relied on as a fundamental foodstuff. So, you don’t mess with bread. However, in Nhill during the amalgamation of two bakeries in 1967, there seemed to be a crisis that could have led to Nhillites "eating cake".
Lemon Springs update
EPA Victoria. Clean-up of Lemon Springs continues. We have removed waste from 30 of the 32 burial sites. We have cleaned up 16 of the sites and filled them with clean soil ... We continue to remove acetylene cylinders. We have removed more than 43,000 cylinders to date. We are working with industry to create a new facility to dispose of the cylinders. This facility is the first of its kind and located in Stawell.
At-Home Support Program changes in Hindmarsh, Yarriambiack
At their most recent Council Meetings, Yarriambiack Shire Council moved to transition out of the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and Hindmarsh Shire provisionally moved (subject to consultation with staff) to exit out of the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and the State Government funded Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACCPYP) program from 30 June 2023 ... Yarriambiack Shire Council Mayor, Kylie Zanker said "This is one of the most difficult decisions we have had to make, and with the significant changes being introduced into the aged care industry it has made it almost impossible for Council to continue to deliver the services".
