Students get climate-action ready at Horsham

Agriculture Victoria’s Horsham SmartFarm recently provided local students hands-on experience of climate action research, with a focus on preserving important grains and plants for the future. The visit was by a group of students who are currently studying Agricultural and Horticultural Science at Goroke P-12 College.

Nhill’s “Big Red”

Meet the Immortal River Red Gum – a heritage-listed tree on the Mallee Dam Road, adjoining Mount Elgin Swamp. It’s one of the thickest, tallest, and oldest River Red Gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) in Victoria and can be found 13 km south of Nhill. The National Trust estimates the tree is about 400 years old and has been listed as a significant tree because it is particularly old and because of its outstanding size.

New X-Ray machine marks the spot!

Thanks to overwhelming support from the communities it serves, West Wimmera Health Service has unveiled and commenced using its new X-Ray machine. The new digital X-Ray machine offers shorter exposure times, more accurate imaging, faster examination times, and reduced radiation dose.

Janmac sires breed suckers to hit market sweet spot

A large selection of impressive rams by Janmac’s homegrown sires will feature in the stud’s annual spring sale this year, highlighting the depth of the stud’s genetics. And having recently returned from Sheepvention, one of the largest sheep expos in the country, Janmac Poll Dorset and White Suffolk Stud co-principal Grant Hausler said weight and quality wise their sheep were "right on track".

Tigers host successful Prelim

Nhill and District Sporting Club hosted a successful Preliminary Final on Sunday, with record numbers through the gates. The crowds at Davis Park on Sunday for the preliminary final were confirmed by the League to be the biggest finals crowd in 2 years bar last year’s Wimmera League Grand Final.

Nhill Coast Busters Coastrek success

Congratulations to Nhill Coastbusters Sarah White, Meg Hall, Holly Beattie and Emily Gladdis, who took on the challenge of the Coastrek 35 km on Friday at the Fleurieu Peninsula. The team finished the trek in 9 hours and 47 minutes ... Nhill Coast Busters finished as the No 1 team Fundraiser for the 35km event.

Hindmarsh Shire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Jessie Holmes as its new Chief Executive Officer after a competitive recruitment process.
