This week our Rampagers team ... played a very competitive game against the Yanac junior team and won with a goal scored by Lewis. It's encouraging to see our first-year players continuing to increase their confidence, plus our more experienced players assisting them when needed.

A fundraiser organised by a loving daughter, Lara, aims to ease the financial strain of her mum's fight against breast cancer ... Lara's campaign has a personal and heartfelt touch, as she isn’t just raising funds but is also sacrificing her hair to provide her mother with a natural wig during the tough times ahead.
Website relaunch for Purple Starfish
Purple Starfish Kaniva re-launched its website this week ... The new website features makers, volunteers and customers. It builds on the Visit Victoria campaign of supporting local artisans and makers with the ‘Meet the Maker’ stories of the creators behind the products.
Nhill’s surprise station shutdown sparks community outcry
Last week the community of Nhill was surprised to find the Nhill Railway Station fenced off and out of bounds to the community, without any consultation, after being deemed unsafe for public use by the Australian Rail Track Corporation. Local resident Margaret Millington said it was a sad situation and that "Sadly, the Nhill station is now inaccessible to passengers wishing to travel on the Overland.
Mallee Machinery Field Days
For four decades, the Speed Lions Club has been responsible for bringing the Mallee’s largest agricultural event to fruition each year. It’s no mean feat for the dedicated group of 26 volunteers, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to organise the two-day event, showcasing the latest in agricultural machinery and technology.
Nhill’s Gallipoli pine
John Williams. Also known as a "Lone Pine" the tree began life in Nhill as a germinated seed planted outside the Monomeeth Aged Care Homes in Clarence Street. The story of the tree began in 1970 when well-known local identity Tammy Dickinson, accompanied by Joe Morris and Fred Wubbling, travelled to Gallipoli in search of the grave of Tammy’s Uncle, Thomas Dickinson.
Visit of Lions Youth Exchange from Germany and Switzerland
Over the past week, two delightful Lions Exchange Students have been making their home in Nhill as part of their month-long visit to Australia ... although it is a privilege to show visitors such as Alia Mostert and Sara Kuntner our country, it is actually a "double blessing" ... It has been a joy to learn about their home countries, but it is especially rewarding to view our homeland through new eyes.
Support for Overland Rail Service
Last week the Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora and Member for Ripon Martha Haylett wrote a letter to Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll calling for continued support of The Overland rail service. Both MPs are calling for continued Government support to ensure the twice-weekly service – which also stops at Murray Bridge, Bordertown, Nhill, Dimboola, Horsham, Stawell, Ararat, and Geelong’s North Shore – is funded beyond 2023.
