The latest Sheep Producers Intentions Survey (SPIS), conducted by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), reveals a significant shift in producer sentiment and flock management strategies across the nation. This shift is being driven by volatile market conditions, extreme weather events, and regulatory changes, most notably the planned phase-out of live sheep exports.

Clean sweep for Boort netballers

Attackers combined well using front cuts and strong movements to bring the ball down the court and create valuable scoring opportunities. The midcourters fed well into the ring. Charlton defenders once again worked tirelessly to shut down Boort’s attacking end by applying consistent pressure.

The life and times of Edwardian composer Liza Lehmann was brought to life through narrative and song in the presentation of “In A Persian Garden” by the Dunolly Gilbert and Sullivan Society at The Rex Theatre last Saturday afternoon.

Pony Club’s accreditation course

Visiting Pony Club members from Horsham and Charlton attended Donald and District’s June rally, held on Sunday the 15th, to complete a gear checking accreditation course facilitated by Linda Gerring from Maryborough.

Buloke withdraws from development organisation

At its ordinary meeting on Wednesday, June 18, Buloke Shire Council confirmed that it will withdraw its membership from the Wimmera Southern Mallee Development (WSMD) ... councillors voted unanimously to withdraw after determining the Shire had yet to receive any funding or demonstrated benefit – particularly in relation to WSMD's focus on addressing housing shortages across the region.

Chathura Silva’s medicine and music: Birchip fosters eminent career

Long-term Birchip residents may remember, about 30 years ago, when two young Sri Lankan boys, Tharanga and Chathura Silva, enrolled at the school ... Chath has offered to give a classical guitar recital in Birchip, with all proceeds going to the Birchip P-12 School. Chath feels that it is only natural to give something back to the Birchip community and school which fuelled his passions as a young boy.

Musings on Men’s Shed movement

The June Donald History Society Inc. meeting was held at the Courthouse Museum ... The fourteen members were present and they were privileged to hear a fine presentation about the Donald Men’s Shed given by History Society and Men’s Shed, member, John Kumm ... The Men’s Shed movement originated in Australia during the late 1970s and the 1980s.
