Maitland showjumper Maddison Wissell has maintained her strong form in the 2025 season, delivering standout performances on the national stage.
She competed at the Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships in Sydney at the end of September, placing third and fifth overall in the intermediate 90cm jumping class, riding two different horses.
The Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships were held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre and was the largest competition at the venue since the 2000 Olympic Games.
Wissell was South Australia’s most successful intermediate rider at the championships.
“I had a good championships overall,” Wissell said.
“I came fifth on day two, fourth on the last day, and fourth again on another horse on day two.
“It was good to perform well against the best in Australia, the competition was very strong.”
Wissell said she performed well in the lead-up to the event and carried some confidence into the championships, knowing her best could mix it with the best.
“I also came seventh in the inter one metre overall — I placed fifth on day two in that event.
“The championships event was really cool overall, it was great to be there competing with the best across Australia.”
Wissell said Olympians Vicki Roycroft and Shane Rose featured at the opening ceremony, which was one of the highlights.
“It was really cool seeing them there and showing us the pathway into the sport, helping paint the picture.
“It took four days of travel, and we were there for five days over all, so a little different to a normal SA meet.”
