The Naracoorte Polocrosse Club wrapped up another spirited season at its scenic Hynam grounds, where members gathered for the annual awards presentation and crowning of the inaugural and highly anticipated- ‘camp oven cook off’.

Fires flickered, camp ovens bubbled, and lots of stories flowed freely about the season over the club’s iconic ‘nibbles & dribbles’.

Polocrosse is more than just fast ponies and fierce competition—it’s a sport where families ride together, stories are passed between generations, and friendships forged in the dust that last a lifetime. With players riding alongside parents, children, siblings and even grandchildren, polocrosse continues to be a celebration of family, sport, and local pride, and the Naracoorte Polocrosse Club continues to build on this legacy.

During the clubs tournaments held back in January, life membership badges were proudly awarded, honouring long-standing service and commitment to the club.

These presentations were reflected upon once again at the wind up and the club invited all life members to be a part of the wind up and shared jobs of presenting all the awards.

The 2025 life member recipients were Ian Zippel, Abby Waugh, Kym Marie Berkin, and Chris Wittig (awarded posthumously). They join an outstanding line of hard working, committed and decorated life members who helped shape the spirit of the club. They are Ross and Gill Clark, Rex Munn, Bob and Bev Luff, Barry and Jean Cameron, Don and Ann Cross, Malcolm and Heather Smith, Geoff and Jo Berkin, Morva Gurney, Phillip Clark, and David Berkin.

The standout moment of the night was the open vote count. The winners were revealed through a vote count conducted openly in front of club members—ensuring a heartfelt and communal moment that reflected the club’s strong spirit of fairness and camaraderie.

The club crowned Southend’s Tory Mueller as the most consistent player, and also honoured her Stockhorse mare, InStyle Kara, with the most consistent horse award. Tory received a trophy rug for Kara and a personalised bridle from The Tack Room. Tory most certainly turned herself around from the beginning of the season to the end and her performance, partnership with Kara (her horse) and consistency shone brightly in the end.

The club’s President Award was presented by Hayley Westley (Milang) and given to Michelle Dupree. The award honoured Michelle’s selfless dedication, endless volunteer hours, and her tireless service as club secretary, events catering coordinator, and all-round creative force in the club. Life member- Phil Clark handed over the engraved Yeti mug and said a few words about Michelle which was greatly received.

The most improved player was Hannah Seamer (Beachport). Presented by Matt Reeves, Hannah overcame injuries from last season, and worked hard to gel with her big, powerful Stockhorse Roy. Her growing confidence, racquet work, leadership, and developing strategic play made her a standout this year.

The club’s Captain Award was given to Ebony McCauley (Lucindale). Also presented by Matt Reeves, Ebony was celebrated for her fierce yet selfless approach to her polocrosse game. She embraced every opportunity to learn, listen, and evolve—bringing strength and integrity to each position she played. Ebony travelled a lot throughout the season to other tournaments and became a player to be reckoned with.

Club’s Person Award went to Jenna Olsson from (Millicent). Known for her unwavering generosity, Jenna was honoured for always helping others—whether collecting gear, assisting new players, cooking up endless delicious food, or offering support wherever needed. Her selflessness embodies the soul of the club.

Although unable to attend, Abby Waugh was acknowledged with a gift basket for her incredible dedication as the club’s coach. Her selfless dedication to her position was highly admirable and there was never a dull moment during Abby’s coaching sessions.

Thank you to our major and local sponsors whose support fuels our success: Seamer Civil Group, Michell Wool, Castec Rural Supplies, Betta Home Living Naracoorte, IG Zippel, Glenn & Di Schultz, MiniJumbuk, Delta Ag, Brandt, Westley DiGiorgio & Norcock Conveyancers and Solicitors, ASI Outdoors, The Tack Room- Glencoe, Amali Gifts, Naracoorte & Penola Veterinary Service, and A New Leaf.

What a season. Congratulations again to our legends, especially double-winner Tory Mueller. Thank you to our life members Don and Ann Cross, David and Kym Marie Berkin, and Phil Clark who came to present the awards. From pony dust to curry crusts—this club never disappoints.
