Race report, Port Macquarie Race Club, Sunday 27 October 2024

A powerful finishing burst down the centre of the home straight resulted in Dis is Heaven landing a solid victory in the Char Bar Catering Handicap at Port Macquarie on Sunday.

The son of Dissident was confidently supported in betting operations prior to the event and notched up his fifth win with a dominant performance to continue the great run of success being enjoyed by popular Wauchope trainer, Colt Prosser.

Luke Rolls allowed the flashy bay galloper to settle midfield before making a move approaching the final bend and racing away from Get Some Fun and Heir Apparent to score by a half length margin.

Get Some Fun lost no admirers when fighting back after being clearly headed down the home running and the performance by the lightly raced daughter of Wandjina was impressive.

Experts predict a great future for the Karen Owen trained filly as this was only her fourth start together with competing with more seasoned campaigners in the Benchmark 66 event.

It was a successful day for the Rolls family when Luke’s partner, Cassie Schmidt claimed success with Lightscameraaction in the opening event on the card.

Courtney Bellamy drove the mare straight to the early lead and was able to sustain the effort in the run to the post and score by a two-length margin.

Punch One Out and Sivo tried hard but were unable to bridge the gap established by the daughter of Wandjina and victory progressed Lightscameraaction from maiden class with a well-deserved victory following solid recent placings at Bowraville and Kempsey.

The day could have been even more successful when the stable presented Veecee in the Hire Port event, but the former Victorian gelding could not bridge the gap established by Kaiyu and had to be content with a second placing.

Molly Fitzgerald allowed the Glen Milligan trained filly to dictate terms in the lead and Kaiyu was able to withstand the finishing effort of Veecee to score by a narrow margin with Prince of Sorts a moderate third after being installed as a prohibitive favourite.

Christian Reith chartered a course along the rails and was able to secure a narrow win in the third race on Naughty Nurse with the finish providing great excitement for the strong crowd as four horses struck the finishing line almost together.

With Rockbarton Island hitting the lead in the home running and challenges presenting from Oakfield Peewee and Wing Nut in the centre of the straight, Reith was able to secure a clear path on the inside to claim the prize by a nose margin.

Lounerse raced near the speed thanks to a positive ride from Ben Osmond and the David Atkins trained mare repelled the linishing effort of I am Sugoi to score by just under a length in the penultimate event while Xtra Approval continued the successful period being enjoyed by Tony Ball with victory in the last race.

The recent period has been very productive for the Ball stable after notching success in the Port Macquarie Sprint, Krambach Cup and the Taree Lightning over the past month.

The program was conducted under fine skies with the large and enthusiastic crowd enjoying racing at the reconstructed surface which provided some asset for horses racing on the speed before settling down later in the day.

The club is greatly appreciative of the race day support provided by Kentan Machinery Taree, Hire Port Macquarie, The Chip Shop, Tap Tap Goose and Char Bar Catering.

Nick Green has been an integral part of racing at the club over a prolonged period and he was an extremely proud man as the horses entered the barrier in the race named in his honour.

Racing continues at the track with a meeting scheduled for Thursday 14th November and further information regarding bookings and other details are available by contacting the Port Macquarie Race Club office on 02 6581 1964 or email on admin@portmacquarieraceclub.com.au.
