On Sunday July 21, lucky music fans from near and far were fortunate to attend Jazz in July featuring The Martini Set, at the Charlton Park Multipurpose Complex.
Hosting the event for the fourth time, the Charlton Arts committee was pleased with the number in attendance, although less than previous years.
The atmosphere was relaxed with plenty of tapping toes and some hearty singing. Seated around tables, with the bar open as well, it was the perfect setting for an afternoon of great music and great company.
Aaron and Lauretta from Bendigo, who follow the Martini Set, love to dance and provided some extra entertainment as they went for a spin on the dance floor.
The Martini Set, who were performing in Charlton for the first time, didn’t disappoint with a mix of swing, jazz and the occasional ballad from the likes of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Elvis, with popular hits such as “Around the World”, “Fly Me to the Moon”, “Blue Moon” and “When You’re Smiling”.
Band members, Stephen Howard (vocals and guitar), Dennis Toner (double bass), Terry Karrick (drums) and Tim Nelson (piano) obviously enjoyed themselves, with many of the tunes interspersed with friendly banter and a few jokes.
During the interval, a generous afternoon tea was served, and patrons enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with family and friends.
The Charlton Arts committee thanks the Charlton Neighborhood House which handled the ticket sales, and the volunteers who assisted with catering.
Charlton Arts is looking forward to hosting other events including the Charlton Art & Photography Exhibition on October 11 to 14 later this year, and the 2025 Film Festival on March 21 and 22 next year.
