Recent stories

Corryong Health announced the appointment of Dr Catherine Porter as a permanent General Practitioner (GP) at the service.

Dr Porter is a UK-trained GP qualifying in 2023. She obtained her medical degree in the UK in 2011 after studying her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2006.

In the UK, Dr Porter worked in the National Health Service (NHS). During her time as a training GP, she pursued her medical interests in postgraduate teaching, women’s health, fertility, public health, and emergency medicine, acquiring a Certificate in Postgraduate Clinical Education and a Masters in Public Health and Research studies.

In 2018, Dr Porter moved to Australia to gain further experience in emergency medicine and rural general practice.

In pursuit of becoming a rural generalist and amalgamating her interests and skills, Dr Porter acquired a Certificate in Emergency Medicine and is currently completing the Diploma in Emergency Medicine with the Australian Colleague of Emergency Medicine (ACEM).

Having moved to Australia, Dr Porter is now pursing her fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and is a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP).

She boasts diverse experience as a doctor and GP, practicing in the UK and in Australia.

She also prides herself on being an approachable and down to earth practitioner, keeping a deep sense of personal dedication to patients, the community and core fundamental values of general practice and medicine.

Her areas of particular interest include general adult medicine, women’s health, medical education and emergency medicine.

Since 2018, Dr Porter has spent time working across Victoria, mainly in an Emergency Medicine Registrar capacity – initially in metropolitan Melbourne at the Austin, Northern Health and Frankston.

She then moved to work in regional health including Ballarat, Echuca, Shepparton and Albury Wodonga.

Dr Porter found a love for the rural Victoria lifestyle and enjoys the sense of community rural general practice can bring.

This suits her lifestyle and personal interests which include outdoor activities, running, cycling and walking.

In her spare time, Dr Porter enjoys travelling, keeping close to friends and family and sampling the regional culinary delights of Victoria.
