MLC Boarding House a “home away from home”
for Wheatbelt girls

Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC), Media Release, 23 August 2023

Sitting right on the picturesque Swan River in Claremont, Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC) nurtures the individual potential and harnesses the unique passions of each girl that walks through its gates.

Starting from its Early Learning Centre right through to the Junior and Senior Schools, MLC offers one campus for the entire learning journey.

Placing an emphasis on supporting its students from start to finish and preparing them for their purposeful futures, MLC welcomes both day and boarding girls.

Located in the Centenary Building at the heart of campus, the MLC Boarding House is known for its warm and homely feel.

Welcoming girls from around the country and across the globe, it is home to approximately 90 students from Years 6-12 who each bring something special to this vibrant community.

Year 9 students Addison and Jodie began their Boarding journeys together two years ago when they made the move to Claremont from Kellerberrin and Mukinbudin respectively.

Coming from “tightknit communities where everyone knows everyone”, the transition to city life was made easier thanks to the friendly, supportive and inclusive MLC Boarding family.

“It was quite a different environment but I felt that boarding helped due to the various activities before actually starting at the school, so we felt welcome before we even arrived,” Jodie said.

“All of my friends are like family and we have helped each other through the years that we’ve been here,” Addison added.

Growing up in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, Addison and Jodie are no strangers to the Dowerin Machinery Field Days.

“It’s a really good event that gets the whole Wheatbelt community together,” Jodie said.

“A lot of people use it as a way to get educational information on where to send their children to boarding school.”

MLC will be attending the Dowerin Machinery Fields Days on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 August 2023 at Lot 35 Memorial Avenue.

MLC Principal Rebecca Clarke will be accompanied on the Wednesday by key members of staff where they look forward to connecting with the local community.

“This will be an extra special trip, as it’s my first time visiting the Western Australian regions since moving from Adelaide,” Rebecca said.

“If you live in Dowerin and the surrounds, make sure to come and see us. We would love to say hello and tell you all about our wonderful boarding community and the benefits of an MLC education for your daughter.”
