Experts to descend on Lockyer Valley to discuss koala conservation at upcoming forum

Tickets are now available for the upcoming Lockyer Valley Koala Forum.

The Forum, presented by Wildlife Watcher and an initiative of Social Marketing @ Griffith in partnership with the Lockyer Valley Regional Council, will be held on Thursday 18 May at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, as well as online.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Environment Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said the Forum would bring together a host of leading experts and stakeholders.

“We’re looking forward to hearing from Council’s Senior Environmental Planner Renee Sternberg and Catchment Project Officer Chris Hoffmann, together with director Geoff Lundie-Jenkins from the Department of Environment and Science and research fellow Dr. David Fechner, from Social Marketing @ Griffith’s Koala Threat Mitigation project team

“The forum will put a spotlight on the latest strategies for koala conservation, habitat restoration, and the protection of threatened species,” Cr Hagan said.

Other notable speakers will include Cameron Jackson, Futures Specialist at Urban Utilities working on the Koala habitat plantation at Helidon Sewage Treatment Plant; President of Lockyer Uplands Catchment Inc, Diane Guthrie, and Professor Peter Timms, Deputy Director, Genecology Research Centre from the University of the Sunshine Coast working on the development of a vaccine for koalas.

“We look forward to hosting this event and expanding our knowledge base on koala conservation.

“Our Council is committed to exploring and fostering partnerships in all that we do and this is another example of a collaboration that can create a sustainable future for koalas and other threatened species,” Cr Hagan said.

The event will be held from 5pm – 7.30pm at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre.
