Victoria’s Highest Show Since 1885 is back for 2022.

It kicks off with Quick Shears Friday evening 11th November, then the main Show Day Saturday 12th November and carry over horse events on Sunday 13th November. 358 classes of events this year!

Shearing
Fleeces

After a couple of ‘no-Show’ years due to Covid restrictions it’s full steam ahead for 2022. To get back, gate entry will be free for those under 16 on Show Day, enabled by Victorian Government funding. The Committee is also putting on some extra special Back Bigger Better prizes.

The Shearing competitions will be fun to watch with keen vying by the shearers clipping for a record $10,000 prize pool. The Shearing shed is all new inside with brand new stands, wool press, loading ramp and sheep panels. The Fleece room has been redone too, now almost matching the quality of the woolgrowers’ product. All this was helped by grants funding from all 3 levels of Government, rustled up and installed by our volunteers. Shearing competitions have a brand-new electronic timing system giving unarguable printed out results, beating the old “blokes with stopwatches” system. The electronic system was developed and installed by New World Computers from Lindenow.

So far, the Charity Wool Bales has raised $86,429 for the Helimed Auxiliary from fleeces donated by generous wool growers. Fleece donations are already being taken again for 2022.

Out on the arena, there will be the favourite of yard dog trials and under the trees the wood chopping. Later in the day on Saturday, the Dog High Jump competition has $750 in all as Back Bigger, Better prizes.

Rev It Up Racing is new to Omeo this year with 4 sets of Car Racing Simulators and more. This provides Family Entertainment around car racing themed activities, that kids of all ages (and even adults) absolutely love! Families can race against each other on the virtual racetrack.

Eljay’s Junk Yard Action Show is a one-of-a-kind motorcycle and mountain bike comedy/action stunt show. This act has fun and excitement for everyone from 3-year old’s to grandparents. There will be three sessions from Eljay during the day. Mountain bike stunts will be emphasised!

Omeo Mountain Bike Trails construction is underway. Trails builder, Common Ground Trails and the project manager East Gippsland Shire Council will have a dual exhibit. Some bikes will be on display from Omeo Ski Hire, Service Station & Mountain Bike Hire. Excitement in 2023 as the first trails stages open!

Pavilion

At the Pavilion two Cookery and two Photography competitions each have Back Bigger Better $250 prizes. There are lots of Classes including some new ones.  Kids Creative Craft Competitions are new this year with Show Persons, Art, Flowers, on again.

Around the middle of Saturday, the tug of war competition, open to teams of 6 vying over 3 pulls should be serious, maybe, with a Back Bigger Better prize of $750 to the winning team.

A bevy of food and drink offerings will be available throughout the day.

The support from sponsors, advertisers, all three levels of government and unstinting volunteers’ contribution of time and effort makes it happen.
