Merv in Moulamein

Moulamein was graced by fishing royalty at the weekend.

Merv Hughes, former Australian cricketer and host of Merv’s Fishing, accompanied by Squizzy Taylor, was on the water filming in the region with the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder and Department of Primary Industry and Investment to showcase the benefits of environmental water.

Moulamein resident, Jess Gilmour, 29, and Baxter Russ, 12, got to spend a day fishing with the crew.

“It was so much fun,” said Jess.

“They were hilarious and really easy to get on with.

“They made us feel like part of the crew and very welcome.”

Baxter was the sole successful fisherperson, landing four cod in a row!

“Baxter and I had the privilege of going fishing yesterday with these two legends, Merv Hughes and Squizzy Taylor!”

The episode will form part of Series 8 of Merv’s Fishing that will air on Seven Mate in the near future.
