Magic will be in the air at this year’s Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival featuring yet another stellar line-up of local and West Australian authors, illustrators, storytellers, poets and musicians.
Embracing the theme “Weave Your Magic”, the ever-popular literary event hosted by the Geraldton Regional Library presents an impressive four-day program featuring the Festival Opening Night, book and author talks, workshops, a Woodstock Time Travel Party and activities for young people.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said the impressive line-up would be a huge drawcard for the event.
“The variety of Big Sky continues to grow every single year and it’s great to see the event celebrate so many facets of literature,” he said.
“It’s such a unique event held right here in Geraldton and I applaud the Library for their collation of such a diverse program.
“We thank the amazing guest speakers and we look forward to welcoming them, along with guests, to the exciting event.”
As part of the Festival, the Library opened the Big Sky short story competition in April and it is with great pleasure the shortlisted winners are announced as follows:

- Denise Combes
- Erin Middleton
- Annette Sellers
- Natasha Harradine
- Leanne Nunn-White
The Winner, Runner-Up and Highly Commended entries will be announced at the Festival Opening Night, Thursday 30 September, 6pm-8pm at the Geraldton Regional Library.
Big Sky Readers and Writers Festival runs from 30 September – 3 October at various local locations.

Funding for the Festival has been provided thanks to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (Regional and Remote Festivals Fund), along with support from the Geraldton Universities Centre, local businesses and community groups.
