High honour bestowed on local innovator
Michelle Dorian. Self-described ‘Entrepreneur and Initiator,’ Luz Restrepo, has been awarded Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) as part of the King’s Birthday 2024 Honours List for her service to the multicultural community of Victoria ... Luz was the founder of Sisterworks and co-founder of Migrant Women in Business, both social enterprises designed to support women with migrant, asylum seeker or refugee backgrounds.

Kerry Cain. The Newstead Racecourse Recreation Reserve covers approximately 80 acres and is owned by the State Government. The NRRR has a volunteer committee that manages, maintains, and enhances the land ... The NRRR now has a park section used as a camping area.
Dogs by day, stars by night
On the other side of the Mount, the sky is dark and the conditions are perfect for keen astrophotographer Anne-Maree McComb. By day she takes care of the boarders in her daughter’s kennel, and by night she photographs the night sky.
Flood concerns
A proposed planning permit application for a 16-block subdivision on land in Maldon that is bordered by Lowther, Polsue and Reef Streets is once again in the spotlight ... The [Tarrangower] Times met with two of the objectors last week, who said that their primary objection to the application is the fact that the block is subject to periodic flooding.

There has been a long line of editors in the 157-years of the [Tarrangower] Times. But Ian Dawes, who died last week, must be the standout editor, in terms of his experience and skills as a wordsmith. He had a long and distinguished writing career that took him all over the world.

First female captain for Walmer FB
Congratulations to Julie Hough, who as from 1 July will be the first woman to be appointed Captain of the Walmer Fire Brigade ... She is well qualified and has a few roles at the Walmer Brigade - she’s the Comms Officer, the Health & Safety Officer, is trained in first aid, is licensed to drive trucks and has been part of a few strike teams.
Group exhibition and artist talks

Jackie Gorring, Philip Adams and Craig Barrett all live on Dja Dja Wurrung country, with each acknowledging their own perspective of life on this land as fundamental to their artistic practice and expression.
