Australian Government delivering $4.8 million in relief to regional and remote airports: King

The Albanese Government has provided critical financial relief to 34 regional and remote airports through the Regional and Remote Airport Support Program. These relief payments will help airports, largely run by local councils, to manage any debts linked to the voluntary administration of Rex Airlines, and maintain the essential aviation services they provide for their communities.

Second meeting of Rex Creditors approves Deed of Company Arrangement proposed by Air T to acquire Regional Express Holdings Limited (Administrators Appointed)

Samuel Freeman, Justin Walsh and Adam Nikitins of EY Parthenon as Joint and Several Voluntary Administrators of Regional Express Holdings Limited (Administrators Appointed) and a number of its subsidiaries (together ‘the Rex Group), announced creditors voted in favour of a Deed of Company Arrangement (DOCA) proposed by Air T at the Second Meeting of Creditors for the Rex Group.

RCA welcomes inquiries into regional aviation

Regional Capitals Australia (RCA) has welcomed the release of the terms of reference for two inquiries into regional aviation. The first, a Productivity Commission inquiry into the key factors that determine regional airfares. The second, a Senate committee inquiry into the state of Australia’s aviation sector and its ability to deliver reliable and affordable services to rural, regional and remote communities.

Resuscitated Rex must deliver service, not same old failures: Katter

Gulf and North West deserve service, not continued failures, Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) Leader and Member for Traeger Robbie Katter has said. Mr Katter reiterated his call for genuine reform to air transport services in the region, noting that the fleet that the new American owners have acquired is not fit for purpose in the Gulf.

Statement on Air T intention to purchase Rex: King

On 21 October 2025, a Sale and Implementation Deed to purchase Regional Express Holdings Limited (Rex) was entered into by US corporation Air T, Inc. (Air T) and the Rex Voluntary Administrators. The Australian Government welcomes these announcements, which mark a positive step towards bringing Rex out of voluntary administration.

Qantas’ decision to shut its crew bases in Mildura, Canberra and Hobart is another blow to regional Australia, centralising jobs to capital cities and ripping skills and spending out of local communities. Around 70 pilots and cabin crew are affected across the three bases, including about eight staff in Mildura.

Feds to acquire Rex if no buyer found

The federal government will acquire Regional Express if the collapsed airline fails to find a buyer – a move which would make it the first nationally-owned carrier in three decades ... The Albanese Government is ensuring Rex Airlines regional services will continue, supporting the administrators on next steps. The Government ... acquire $50 million of debt from Rex’s largest creditor, PAGAC Regulus Holdings Limited (PAG), an important step to prevent an adverse outcome for regional communities, such as liquidation, and ensure the continued connectivity of Australia’s regional and remote communities.

Rex’s administration process is progressing, with the recent sale of Pel-Air Aviation Pty Limited to Helicorp Pty Ltd, part of Toll Aviation, with proceeds from the sale being used to repay secured creditors. The financing will support the business to continue offering critical services for regional communities, with Rex’s administrators intending … to extend the Voluntary Administration to 30 June 2025.

I wanted to personally share with you today’s news that the Australian Government announced an $80m financing facility to support the continued operations of the Rex network and their intention to extend the Federal Government Regional Flight Booking Guarantee. This is great news for Rex.  It provides resources for investment needed to improve the business and the operational performance of the regional network including increasing the size of the active regional Rex fleet.
