Green light for Murray Plains Meat Cooperative with red meat processing licence

The Murray Plains Meat Cooperative (MPMC) has officially received its licence for red meat processing, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to supporting local agriculture and providing ethical, small-scale livestock processing services.

Abattoir open day kills it!

In weather that could only be described as tropical, around 30 people attended a very hot and humid Murray Plains Meat Co-Operative open day on Friday December 6. After nine years of advocacy planning and cooperation with Murray River Council the micro abattoir has come to life.

Micro abattoir rubber stamped

Andrew Mole. More than seven years of hard work is about to go live after the long-awaited Barham micro abattoir last week passed its audit for poultry processing with flying colours. The rubber stamp from the NSW Department of Primary Industries means the facility is licensed and ready to operate.

Micro abattoir set to start

Barham’s brand-new multispecies abattoir will soon begin processing as rectification works near completion. The multi-million dollar co-operative-owned investment will ensure that local growers have access to timely, humane slaughter of their animals.

Micro abattoir tour excites

The need for humane and accessible abattoir facilities has never been greater as producers are forced out of larger facilities and face ever-increasing costs of transporting their animals. Last week’s meeting and tour with the Murray Plains Meat Co-Operative (MPMC) was well attended with everyone being brought up to speed on how the project is progressing.  

Local producers excited as micro abattoir draws closer

Eight years after its inception and almost 12 months after construction began, the Murray Plains Meat Co-Operative’s micro abattoir is reaching the final stages of licensing approval.  The project will enable producers to have full control of the supply chain to ensure the ethical treatment of their animals and to value add their produce.  

Micro-abattoir public hearing

Over 30 attendees turned out for the land reclassification public hearing on February 3. Lot 1 DP1267277, Gonn Road, Barham is the proposed site for Barham’s new micro-abattoir ... While the hearing was focused on the land reclassification, topics raised by speakers were broad, from the benefits of the development to those who felt a lack of consultation and concerns over the process.
