Hospital strike out

Murray Pioneer
Business
Madison Eastmond. Riverland medical staff will join hundreds of nurses as they reject the State Government's most recent pay offer, which they claim still "leaves SA nurses and midwifes as the lowest paid in Australia".

The wrong ratio headcount issue

Madison Eastmond. Riverland medical staff are claiming new ratio laws that have been recently passed by the State Government to improve medical care and safety are failing to alleviate the "high pressure working conditions" of rural and regional healthcare. Alongside an offer of a 13 per cent pay rise over four years, with bonus payments totalling $4500 … the State Government also announced the passing of new patient ratio laws, which are said to ensure "safer nursing".

The 2025 program kicked off the weekend with a number of popular returning components, including the Renmark Institute floral display, Gala Dinner, and the Festival Fair.

For Pete’s sake, Vincent visited

Hugh Schuitemaker. Last week's Riverland visit by the State Opposition Leader has highlighted Labor's indifference towards the region, Tim Whetstone says. Alternative premier Vincent Tarzia made his first trip to the Riverland since taking over from disgraced former Liberal leader David Speirs in August 2024, and Mr. Whetstone said the continued absence of Peter Malinauskas – who last visited during the flood, in November 2022 – says plenty about the two parties.

Varroa mite shakes Riverland beekeepers

Sebastian Calderon. A well-known Riverland beekeeper is examining how to adapt following the first detection of varroa mite in South Australia, with concerns rising over how the pest could impact both commercial hives and pollination services vital to local horticulture. Loxton-based commercial beekeeper Ian Cass said he has been preparing for varroa since PIRSA's varroa development officers (VDO's) began holding training sessions.

Madison Eastmond. High attendance and exhibitor numbers, along with great weather conditions, all came together for a successful 66th edition of the Riverland Field Days last weekend.
