The Community Hub hosted felting workshops in June to create beanies for the Alice Springs Beanie Festival. Entries were sent down for display, judging and possible sale, and life went on. So it was a pleasant surprise to find three of the entries won awards.

The streets of Alice Springs will be transformed into an alfresco art gallery when the Alice Springs Street Art Festival (ASSAF) takes place from 23 July to 8 August 2021. The festival will see four of Australia’s top street artists Kaff-eine (Vic), Gus Eagleton (Qld), Brontë Naylor (Qld) and Miss Polly (Darwin) team up with local creatives Tamara Cornthwaite, Karine Tremblay, Mark Circus and Kim Donald to paint six new murals across the CBD.

A sense of excitement has arrived along with the cold weather as Whyalla kicks off Cuttlefest 2021, a colourful celebration of all things cuttlefish. The Giant Australian Cuttlefish (sepia apama) swarm into rocky areas off the Whyalla coast during May, June, July and August to mate and reproduce, in the process creating a remarkable spectacle of cunning games, underwater lightshows and colourful kaleidoscopic displays.

Only a few weeks until the Kyogle Writers Festival kicks off ... Authors attending include Melissa Lucashenko, Stuart Rees, Daniel Browning, Ellen van Neerven, Nardi Simpson, Scott Bevan, Laura Elvery, Jessie Cole, Lisa Walker, Kristina Olsson and many more ... Local authors at the festival: Jarrah Dundler, Paul Shields, Linda Woodrow, Odette Nettleton, Gwendolyn Gray, Hayley Katzen, Andrew Johnston and Thor Phillips.
