Rebuilt supermarket opens next week!
Local shoppers rejoice! After almost two years after Tennant Creek’s only supermarket was damaged by arsonists, the rebuilt store will open its doors next Thursday morning. The multi-million dollar rebuild will likely mean Tennant Creek will enjoy one of the flashiest supermarkets rarely seen in remote communities.
Threeways Roadhouse hits the market
The Barkly’s iconic Threeways Roadhouse is up for sale. Calling for expressions of interest by Colliers, the roadhouse first sold fuel in the 1960s from a 44-gallon drum until Shell developed the present site including the roadhouse.
Mozzie Mob helping Tennant eliminate dengue mosquito
A dengue mosquito elimination program is gaining traction in Tennant Creek, a year since the dengue mosquito, Aedes aegypti, was found in the town. A team of five NT Health staff, known to the locals as the Mozzie Mob, are conducting property inspections to review backyard items that can hold water to treat them for mosquito eggs or larvae.
Barkly Plumbing takes out Territory-wide business award
Barkly Plumbing Services has taken out a major award in the Chamber of Commerce NT’s Territory wide Business Excellence and Customer Service Awards. The family-owned business took out the Best Business in the Small to Medium category.
The great Local Authority debate: Should it stay or should it go?
Barkly Regional Council is urging residents and ratepayers to have their say whether the Tennant Creek Local Authority (TCLA) should continue. A questionnaire on the Council’s website is asking for input to decide if the local Authority, funded to the tune of $100,000 a year, is viable.
