Looking back: Allora’s past – Tidy Town winner again

25 years ago, August 1997. For the second year in succession Allora won gold in the Tidy Towns Environmental Awards in Category D (population 801-1500). Allora Action Association president Peter Briggs said the whole community contributed towards the winning of the award and that the Warwick Shire Council workers played their part by maintaining the parks and gardens.

Clifton hosts karate championships

The Aussie Kids Karate championships were held last Sunday at Clifton with fifty competitors taking part from across the Darling Downs. Allora was represented by six Karate Kids and they competed against clubs from Clifton, Warwick, Dalby, Oakey, Millmerran, Gatton, Highfields and Toowoomba.

Feedback wanted on flying foxes at Allora

Last week’s meeting of The Southern Downs Regional Council was told that Black, Little Red and Grey-headed Flying-Foxes are native species that are seasonal visitors to the Southern Downs. The animals typically arrive in the Southern Downs in spring, occupying three roost sites until the onset of cooler weather in late autumn/early winter.

Allora loves Matthew, Matthew loves Allora

Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and local hero Matthew Denny never forgets his home town of Allora. During an interview on Channel 7 Matthew said “Hello to everyone back in Allora. Thank you Allora for supporting me” and to John - “Dad we got it done, Mate!” During one interview he made reference to the Welcome Home Parade after Tokyo when he came 4th so maybe this time Allora will be given a public holiday?

El Caballo means horse in Spanish

So what has this to do with Allora? The answer - El Caballo is the name of a brand new shop opened by Karren and Jeff Hoare in Herbert Street. Karren comes from a Rodeo family and always wanted to have her own Western Clothing store.
