It’s obvious – Allora loves Matthew

Not just because he’s an Olympic Champion but because he’s a wonderful role model and a really nice bloke. This last weekend was put aside for Matthew Denny - Allora’s favourite son. Friday saw the popular Street Parade, official welcome at the Sports Museum, afternoon tea in our Community Hall and dinner at night.

Winners announced at Darling Downs Beef Battle 2024  

The "steaks" were high at the 7th running of Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprises’ (TSBE) Darling Downs Beef Battle. Nine of our region’s best beef brands, Australian Country Choice, Grove Shorthorns, JBS, John Dee, Mort & Co, NH Foods, Rangers Valley, Stanbroke and Stockyard, went head-to-head, showcasing their brand and superb product to over 500 attendees.

Roseneath, Allora’s first self-contained B&B

Looking back on how Roseneath started 25 years ago with Lynn Close. "Our journey to Roseneath really started back in 1985 when we moved with our 3 children to acreage at Mt Marshall 6kms out of Allora. For 18 years afterwards we built a house and gardens, had thoroughbred horses, a Southdown sheep stud and numerous bird life.

Matt Duggan does it again

For the seventh time, talented rugby league player Matt Duggan has been awarded The Clifton Courier Shield as the Wattles Warriors Footballer of the Year. Duggan set a new club record when he took out the title in 2022 for the sixth time - now he’s gone one better.

Allora Jockey Club posters

History has been discovered in the walls of the old Clifton Courier Building. With the move into new premises from the old Clifton Courier building staff unearthed historic articles such as these large Allora Jockey Club posters.

Vale Jack Duggan – Wattles legend extraordinaire

Glyn Rees. As many will be aware on Tuesday last week, so very sadly the Wattles fraternity, senior and junior, lost one of their great stalwarts in Mr Jack Duggan. It will certainly be an adjustment for all who frequent Platz Oval at game time, senior and junior, to now see a vacant chair near the gateway aside the announcing box, a chair that in recent years has seen Jack, beside wife Shelley, as near permanent viewers of the achievements of all those on field in green and gold.

The second leg of my Nuffield Scholarship Global Focus Program took us to Ontario, Canada. The Greater Toronto Area, with a population of approximately 6.4 million, is experiencing rapid population and economic growth.
