Commonwealth sanctions against Moreton Bay House

The Commonwealth Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has imposed sanctions on Naracoorte’s Moreton Bay House stating “there is an immediate and severe risk to the safety, health or wellbeing” of residents. Following an audit, Moreton Bay House failed 19 of 42 requirements listed under the Commonwealth’s eight industry standards for aged care and safety.
Families farewell Apsley pub
Gabrielle Duykers. Eight years after first banding together to save the town pub, 12 Apsley farming families will be handing over The Border Inn Hotel to new energetic owners next month. The hotel, built in 1850, served as a social hub for residents in western Victoria and south east SA for more than 170 years before shutting its doors indefinitely in 2011.
Provider fails 19 requirements for Moreton Bay residents
Chris Oldfield. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission found 19 failures as its reasons to impose a “sanction or notice to agree” against the provider of care for Moreton Bay House.
Roads, pools, housing – Tatiara seeks feedback on budget

Almost $4 million on road construction, $70,000 on swimming pools, $268,000 on buildings and $1.4 million on industrial estates these are a few of the projects listed in the Tatiara District Council’s 2022 23 draft budget and business plan... Other spending includes $675,000 on worker accommodation which is jointly funded with the Federal Government.
Feral pests targeted
The region’s landscape board is hoping to minimise the feral deer population with the help of a cash injection from the Federal Government. The Limestone Coast Landscape Board (LCLB) has received $344,000 to build on its existing deer control initiatives through the Supporting Communities Manage Pests and Weeds program.
Final tally: $1m blow out for new library
Chris Oldfield. The modern new Naracoorte library has a final cost to ratepayers of more than $3 million... During Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s May 24 meeting CEO Trevor Smart unveiled the $2.44 million end cost of consultants, construction, fixtures, fittings, furniture, art, signs and landscaping for the new library.
$4m aged care project opens
Gabrielle Duykers. Ten new places are available at Stirling Lodge Aged Care after a much needed expansion was officially completed last week. Located at Keith and District Hospital, the lodge recently underwent a $4.5 million renovation project, funded by a $2.6 million commitment from the Federal Government, a $1 million donation from an anonymous donor, and other donations from members of the community.
NLC rates up by 2%
Chris Oldfield. Rates will go up by 2pc in the Naracoorte Lucindale Council area, according to a 2022-2023 draft $19.694m annual business plan and budget... Council also aims to raise a further $1.97m from service charges and levies on some of its citizens, $292,000 from statutory charges, as well as $2.189m from user charges and “commercial income”.
