An innovative project will be launched next week to identify economic opportunities for development in the Upper Murray. Led by Dr Juliette Milbank, ‘The Future of the Upper Murray’ will cover an area on both sides of the Murray River ... It seeks to develop strategic and innovative long-term projects that take advantage of local regional strengths.
Wetlands provides a home for busy bees
Apart from the Corryong Wetlands being a place to go, enjoy, relax and soak in the surroundings it is also envisaged that as the project develops the area will become a useful place for both young and old to learn about our natural environment ... Twenty-five ‘Bee Hotels’ and ‘Bee B&Bs’ had been prepared for the day and after Karen’s talk the group adjourned to the Corryong Wetlands site where a number of them were placed in trees awaiting their new guests.
Paragliders enjoy world class facilities
After a delayed start due to the weather, this year’s annual Corryong Paragliding Open was completed with two days of exciting competition flying. The event is a round of the national championships and uses the launch site on Mt Elliot. It attracted more than 80 national and international participants ...

Local people and organisations were recognised for their community service at breakfast ceremonies in towns across the Towong Shire on Australia Day ... The joint Citizens of the Year are former Corryong pharmacists, Catherine and Stewart Ross, who have had a long involvement in community affairs ... Local cafè owner, Stuart Spratt, was presented with a Special Recognition award ... Community Group of the Year award went to the supporters and committee members of the Corryong & District Memorial Hall and the RSL Hall ...
Brigade’s proud service record is recognised
More than 20 members of the Tintaldra Fire Brigade were recently presented with Long Service Medals by CFA Commander, Trevor Ebbels, totalling an amazing 650 years of service in total. The longest serving current member is Phillip Coysh who has been involved with the brigade for 50 years with Laurie Forrest chalking up 45 years.

Snowy Hydro has announced the appointment of Dennis Barnes as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director ... Mr Barnes was most recently CEO of ASX/NZX-listed Contact Energy, guiding the company through a period of significant change including the separation from Australian majority shareholder Origin Energy and the completion of a NZ$2billion investment program encompassing renewable generation and enterprise-wide systems.
Super volunteer recognised
A staunch advocate of women in agriculture, long-time Landcare supporter, strong community proponent and anti-cancer fighter has received an Order of Australia (OAM) in today’s honours list. Julie De Hennin of Talgarno was recognised for her service to the North East community and is well known in the Upper Murray.
