Grace follows in great grandmother’s footsteps

Over 30 years ago Lockhart resident Jean Urquhart competed in the final of the State Rich Fruit Cake Competition held at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show and now this year her great granddaughter Grace Cox is following in her great grandmother’s footsteps.

Lions roar

Jeff Hanson. In only their second year in the competition, the Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong (GGGM) Lions have won the AFL Riverina SNSW women’s football premiership. After going through the 2022 season undefeated, the Lions met the North Wagga Saints in the grand final at Apex Park on Friday night and came away 8.6 (54) to 2.5 (17) winners.

Emu Trek journey near end

The Emu Plume Trek which started in Narrandera last weekend is now in the latter stages of its journey to Wagga Wagga after visiting Grong Grong, Ganmain, Coolamon and other villages along the route to Wagga Wagga.

Call to reject skywalk

A former Narrandera resident who now lives in the tourist town of Noosa wants to alert Narrandera residents to a project she believes will have a negative impact on tourism in Narrandera– the proposed skywalk which will extend over and above Lake Talbot .... The preliminary design for the skywalk at Lake Talbot has been completed by Teleo Design and put out for public feedback by the Narrandera Shire Council by April 15 with intentions to start building it in July this year and complete the project by December.

Council seeks rate variation rise

The Narrandera Shire Council will lodge a special variation application under Section 508(2) with the Independent Pricing & Regulatory Tribunal for a permanent rate increase of two per cent in the 2022-23 financial year. If granted it will yield additional income of $67,600 in 2022-23 and, assuming a future peg of 2.5%, $757,000 over the ten years of the LTFP.

Riverina farmer and teachers sought to live and work in Tanzania

A farmer, a pre-school teacher and a secondary school teacher are sought to live and work for a year or two in the Meru District, Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania in East Africa. Father Andrew Mutubusi is visiting Griffith from Tanzania to learn about local irrigation methods in the hope of supporting the peasant farmers in his community back home.
