The Narrandera Youth Council’s Food Trailer ‘Take A Bite Into the Future” project’ has now come to fruition ... The project will see the Youth Council providing a variety of food and drinks at community and Council events ... The design of the trailer showcases some of Narrandera’s beautiful landmarks and landscape.
TAFE closure claim denied
TAFE NSW has denied claims that it plans to sell off the Narrandera and Deniliquin campuses. The denial was in response to claims by the Member for Murray Helen Dalton that a secret briefing note ... revealed TAFE NSW wanted approval to sell off 19 TAFE campuses across regional NSW ... “We should be investing more in TAFE, not less. I sometimes wonder if this Government want to kill off all of regional NSW and force us all to move to Sydney.”
Lake Wyangan gets big fish upgrade
Ozfish volunteers and local community members have taken the first steps to make Lake Wyangan a stronger native freshwater fishery thanks to a serious habitat upgrade. A thriving and resilient aquatic ecosystem requires the nurturing of suitable habitats that will support the native fish populations. Without somewhere to hide, feel safe and breed and feed, fish numbers cannot be optimized.
Group blasts bridge decision
Narrandera Landcare has blasted Narrandera Shire Council for axing the lattice railway bridge project which attracted widespread community support. The proposal to convert the State-listed heritage bridge to a pedestrian bridge for cyclists and walkers ... was the subject of a DA ... The Council worked with Narrandera Landcare over six years to develop the project and then, in a surprise about turn, rejected the DA on a 5-2 majority vote.
Cod spawning success
The first Murray cod eggs of the season were collected from nesting boxes in the broodstock ponds at DPI’s Narrandera Fisheries Centre. The nesting boxes were put into the ponds in late August with hatchery staff checking for eggs from late September.
Carpheads embrace new challenge
Narrandera Carpheads stalwart Brodie Perram is anticipating his side can give the Ardlethan/Barellan cricket competition a shake as they prepare for their round one bout against Kamarah ... Perram himself is a tough bowler to come up against. He is aiming for 20 to 25 wickets for the season, a goal he says is consistent with his past performances.
Council rejects bridge project
Narrandera Shire Council rejected its own DA for the State-listed heritage lattice railway bridge project at the October Council meeting. The DA provided for the conversion of the bridge to a pedestrian bridge as part of the State Gov't-funded Playground on the Murrumbidgee project ... The converted bridge was to have been added to the town’s bike and hike trail enabling locals and visitors to cycle and/or walk along the bridge from the northern side.
