Too many compromises says Cr
Patricia Gill. Shire councillor Aaron Wiggins described the approval of 15 tiny cabins on Raintree Estate as 'too many compromises' without getting the best result for the community. Cr Wiggins moved the motion to approve the development 'en bloc' of five separate lots, at the June 24 Denmark Shire Council meeting. Though he moved the motion, he was against it.
Tiny cabins next big thing
Patricia Gill. Fifteen short-stay 'tiny house cabins', or holiday chalets, have been given the green light for Raintree Estate on South Coast Highway. The caravan-size chalets, which can be moved, will be placed on five locations on the farm and the development includes a manager's residence south of The Dam restaurant also on Raintree Farm.
‘Hippy’ happy with arts progress
Patricia Gill. Denmark Arts' latest life member Avril Steyl belonged to an influx of Hippies in the 1970s who created Denmark as a centre for the arts. She was presented with the award at a community arts event at Denmark Artshouse on June 27 in acknowledgement for her work in the arts and music.

Patricia Gill. Newly-elected Warren Blackwood MLA Bevan Eatts foreshadowed two controversial developments after preliminary talks with the Shire of Denmark earlier this month. They included the new supermarket on South Coast Highway and a pool ... Mr Eatts, who has based his only electoral office in Denmark, closing the Manjimup office from where he ran his campaign, visited with the National Party team including the party's leader Shane Love.
Residents asked to help review heritage register
Residents are asked to help review the historical and cultural information of the Shire of Denmark's Local Heritage Survey ... Denmark shire president Kingsley Gibson said the review was a chance for everyone to join in and write Denmark's heritage story together.

Wild and joyous energy a winning combination
Patricia Gill. Denmark artist Melissa Boughey's painting, State of Flux, Symbiosis, won the 2025 Omnia Art Prize announced in Toorak, Victoria recently. Melissa, who heard about the win while at home, said she had felt overwhelmed: "There were long distance tears over the phone. I'm touched and surprised."
