The Corryong Cricket Club has crowned a remarkable season with victory in the Tumbarumba & District Cricket Association (TDCA) grand final on Saturday, after being in recess for the past five years.
Corryong won the toss in the hot conditions and chose to bat on what turned out to be a docile pitch and sluggish outfield, posting only 119 before being dismissed in the 37th over.
After big-hitting Nathan Lattanzio was sent back to the shed after a 10-ball duck and rousing send-off by the Tooma players, Brad Colbert held the innings together.
His top score of 27 and dour knocks from middle order batters Cam Sheather (15) and Tom Ross (17 no) helped bolster the total after the top order struggled to gain any traction against the tight Tooma attack.
Mathew McCallum took 3-4 with the ball for Tooma, supported by Noah Meek and Brendan McCallum with two wickets apiece.
With a gettable total in their sights but also at a ground where lower scores have been comfortably defended this season, the decider was there for the taking for either team.
Openers Chace Hamilton (15) and Brendan Lane (19) looked to get things rolling for Tooma but the Corryong attack soon struck with a devastating flow of wickets.
Harry Pole (3-5), Bryce Johnstone (2-2) and Angus Hawks (2-13) did most of the damage with Nathan Lattanzio and Cam Sheather chiming in with early scalps, leaving a shellshocked Tooma reeling – all out for 58 in 34 overs.
In a comprehensive performance in a very low scoring affair, Corryong was too good on the day.
