Doctor shortages impact South East clinics
Sheryl Lowe. South East medical clinics have been affected by doctor shortages resulting in cuts to services and bulk billing. Clinic spokespersons say the Medicare rebate has not kept up with rising costs. Attracting doctors to the South East has been a topic of conversation for many years with one clinic manager saying a 12-month remote rural stint should be built into the training model.
Moreton Bay: Minister and McBride seek updates
Chris Oldfield. State health and wellbeing minister Chris Picton is seeking regular updates on the care and safety standards at Moreton Bay House, as well as its staffing. His intervention follows Commonwealth sanctions placed against the 41 bed aged care facility.
Electorate win for MacKillop, Party loss

From sheep farmer to Parliament House, first term Member for MacKillop Nick McBride MP gained ground in the March State Election with a convincing win over his opponents, but the Liberal Party was defeated in a landslide swing towards the Labor Government. He was also defeated in his bid for Leader of the Opposition but told The News he will continue to advocate for his constituents in MacKillop during his second term in office.
Member for MacKillop announces leadership ambitions

MacKillop MP Nick McBride has begun campaigning to lead the SA Liberals in opposition, following his convincing re-election and the Liberal Party’s demoralising loss in last Saturday’s 2022 State Election. The decision to “throw his hat into the ring” follows the announcement by former Premier Steven Marshall that he would step down as Liberal Party leader, following Labor’s win.
Readying the region – local businesses undergo workshops to help attract skilled employees
Gabrielle Duykers. A pilot program headed by the region’s development body will work with local businesses to improve their chances of attracting, developing, and retaining skilled workers ... The Region Ready project will work with stakeholders to assist skilled workers from interstate and overseas settle into employment in the Limestone Coast.
Lib backs Labor’s local health pledge

A Liberal MP has expressed disappointment in his party for failing to match funding local health funding commitments made by the State Opposition, but says he will continue advocating on behalf of the community. In an interview with Flow News 24, Liberal Member for MacKillop Nick McBride said he supported the Labor Party’s $52 million health pledge for the Limestone Coast, which addressed the “outdated” infrastructure in parts of the region.
Tantanoola gymnasium relocation plan

The small regional community of Tantanoola in the South East of South Australia has big plans to move their almost one-million-dollar school gymnasium a few hundred metres across a couple of country roads to the town’s sporting complex. We have the skills in our community to do this, Tantanoola local Mr. Peter Altschwager told The News, we just need permission ... Local students were educated at the once vibrant school for 139 years but with recent declining numbers, the Education Minister John Gardner decided to close the school in 2020.
Member seeks re-election for MacKillop

Member for MacKillop Nick McBride MP is seeking re-election when South Australians head to the polls this month. “The Marshall government needs another term in government to continue to improve the lives of South Australians and so do I,” Mr MacKillop told The News. “After 16 years in opposition, it takes more than one term to reach some of the goals we had when we came to government.”

"What followed ‘saddened” me, Member for MacKillop Nick McBride MP said on 5THE FM radio. “I realise there is a lot of fear around covid but Teys employees were refused service at businesses in Naracoorte and there was even a threat of the Woolworths Fuel outlet closing so staff wouldn’t have to serve them. The media continued to connect the outbreak to Teys but, Teys was the ‘canary in the coal mine,’ if you like. They detected covid in Naracoorte but were not responsible for bringing it to Naracoorte. It was already there.”
