Rare earths mining: local voices join panel
Eight community representatives have been appointed to sit on the newly formed Community Consultation Committee (CCC) for Australian Rare Earths’ (AR3) controversial Koppamurra Project, a move the company says will strengthen local input. According to AR3, this is the beginning of formal consultation on the proposed rare earths mine as the exploration company moves towards a mining licence application.

Proposed mining for rare earths elements in the Limestone Coast is facing opposition from local producers and residents. Many sections of the community are concerned about how mining would impact production in one of the state's key agricultural regions.
Community unites against rare earth mining threat
A coalition of regional agricultural and business leaders has launched a new advocacy group focussed on protecting the Limestone Coast’s high value agricultural resource, finite water assets and cultural heritage from the imminent threat of mining activities. The Limestone Coast Sustainable Futures Association has launched an awareness campaign to inform the community about the invasive nature of rare earth strip mining which it believes will threaten the economic viability of the food and fibre sector and jeopardise biodiverse value including underground water resources.
Another step for rare earths
Chris Oldfield. A Koppamurra Landholder Reference Group (KLRG) has been formed by Australian Rare Earths as it takes another step towards developing a mining lease application ... The aim of the landholder reference group is to share information and seek feedback on the Koppamurra project.
Koppamurra’s rare earths set to power climate economy
Chris Oldfield. Around 400 “bulka bags” have each been filled with ionic clay samples from the Australian Rare Earths (AR3) Koppamurra Trial Pit. It is enough material to create permanent magnets for around 500 electric vehicles or drive a wind turbine that powers 1500 homes.

Koppamurra mining: Australian first for rare earths
Chris Oldfield. A $45 million mining company with a base in Naracoorte is about to start drilling for rare earths – essential to modern high-tech products – at a unique deposit in Koppamurra ... With a mining licence stretching from Keith to Comaum and from Apsley into western Victoria, Australian Rare Earths Limited (ASX: AREL) announced last week that planning and preparation had been completed for its drilling program to start in early October.
