Kaiser Reef, the publicly listed company that owns Maldon’s Union Hill Mine, operates the processing plant at Porcupine Creek and is exploring areas in Nuggetty, has provided the Australian Stock Exchange and a mining conference with an update of its activities. The company shared a financial estimate of the stockpile material that it has been processing from the historical waste dumps at Union Hill – a process that has some Maldon locals asking questions.

Mark Blythe. Everybody has probably driven past that imposing front entrance along the Maldon- Bendigo Road at some stage, and wondered what goes on in there. Last week, the [Tarrangower] Times got to poke around inside and have a long chat with Dylan Morgan, the Processing Manager at the Kaiser Reef gold treatment plant on the edge of town.

Kaiser Reef’s 100th gold bar was poured at The Porcupine Flat Processing Plant in Maldon last week. The  Times  was lucky enough to be there to record the exciting moment ... Processing Manager Dylan Morgan, dressed in his protective fireproof coat and PPE, poured out the molten lava-like mix which was the liquid gold.  

The final drilling results from the first exploration campaign of diamond drilling at Maldon returned a high-grade interval of 0.6m @ 52.8 g/t gold. Overall, the results were encouraging and very useful in defining the mineralised trends within Maldon ... Kaiser Reef Limited (ASX: KAU) considers Maldon to be an under-explored and prospective prolific high-grade historic goldfield.

Kaiser Reef Limited (ASX: KAU) saw a further increase in gold production of 45% over the previous quarter that delivered a positive cash flow of $1.8M. This major turning point in Kaiser’s A1 mine (located 300km east of Maldon) has ratified the significant effort made by the team to unlock the potential in this high-grade gold mine.

A number of local residents have expressed their concern regarding an application for a new mining exploration licence. One resident told the Times, “I am concerned about the size of the exploration licence that has been applied for, especially in relation to the historic and scientific significant mining landscape that may be damaged.

As you drive towards Bendigo, past Porcupine Village and the dredge, you will see a sign on the left hand side of the road; ‘Octagonal Gold Processing Plant’. This facility, referred to as “the Mill,”   is still operational and currently processing ore from Kaiser Reef A1 Gold Mine, located 23 kilometres from Jamieson.
