Welcome Baby to Country

Members of the local Aboriginal community gathered on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Koori Beach Narrandera for a Welcome Baby to Country celebration on Wiradjuri land. Around 20 babies from Narrandera and Leeton aged 0–12 months and their families attended the ceremony.

It's been all hands on deck recently for the Grong Grong Horse Sports (GGHS) group as members throw their energy into reviving the town's old rodeo grounds and plan a busy calendar of events. Lockhart and District Community held another very successful and enjoyable Spirit of the Land Festival on the weekend of 11 and 12 October. It is 19 years since the first very small festival was held during one of Lockhart's most challenging droughts. Over the years it has grown into a vibrant community event.

Joey Reedy is a stock agent, bullock driver, bush poet and budding auctioneer all at the tender age of 18 but can now add one of the nation's up and coming teamsters to his bow. Joey was the winner of the inaugural Tim Peel Cup at the 2025 Good Old Days Festival at Barellan on 5 October.

Heavy horses set world record at Barellan Good Old Days Festival

A team of 62 heavy horses was harnessed to pull an antique wagon in a record-breaking event at the Barellan Good Old Days Festival at the weekend. It outnumbered the previous Australian record of 50, set in Queensland in the 1980s and a 50-horse hitch in Canada in 1995.

The Cootamundra electorate's cutest residents have been the centre of celebrations in Narrandera, with the town's annual Koala Festival last weekend proving to be an ongoing success ... "This event is great for the local tourism economy, and it's an opportunity for us to celebrate one of the region's greatest environmental achievements," said Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke.

More than $200 million worth of the latest in agricultural and machinery products will be showcased to the nation in southern Australia’s single biggest agricultural event, the 2025 Henty Machinery Field Days. The agribusiness super event is scheduled for 23-25 September and has evolved into the nation’s agricultural shop front over its 62-year history with 14 kilometres of outdoor sites.

About Narrandera Argus

The Narrandera Argus is an independently owned newspaper that has remained in local hands since its inception more than 140 years ago.

It now has a website and paywall catering for digital subscribers and is published weekly on Thursdays.

 

Printing is undertaken offsite although for the first century of its operations it was printed on site in one of its historic locations in the town.
