Uncle Vic Simms
As mentioned on page one, Leroy Johnson and the Waterbag band played the Culture on Country Survival Day concert last January. The original plan had Leroy and band opening the stage for Uncle Vic Simms. Uncle Vic wasn’t feeling so good so he swapped the playing order.

Community might know that local man, Kyle Whyman is the bass player for The Black Shadows, but did you know he is also the bass player for Leroy Johnson and Waterbag band.
Wilcannia chosen for pilgrimage site
Sr Elizabeth Young. Our town was picked! This year, Pope Francis, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, has called a 'Jubilee', which is an ancient practice every 50 or 25 years ... In this part of the Catholic world, Wilcannia (the whole town) has been chosen by Bishop Columba as a place of pilgrimage, along with Broken Hill Cathedral, Forbes and the Brewarrina Fish Traps.
International AFL tour December 2024
As many heard, Leonard Whyman Bugmy was selected to play in the Wanderers Australia AFL(1) team for their international tour December 2024. The experience took Leonard and his team to Dublin (Ireland), Paris (France) and London (England).
A use for carp
Roy Butler, Member for Barwon, tells us he visited a place run by Oceans2Earth. They make a product called Soil Enhancer. They mix fish waste and wood together to make a fertiliser. The man behind this is Tim Crane, originally from Wilcannia.

...Uncle Owen Whyman presented as part of an Indigenous panel at COP29 during the ‘United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’ in Baku, Azerbaijan. Uncle Owen is a respected Wilcannia community leader, volunteer board member of the Indigenous Peoples’ Organisation, Chair of the Paroo-Darling National Park Co-management Committee, Deputy Chair of the Mutawintji National Park Board of Management, board member of North-Western Water Council, and founder and convenor of the Indigenous - Aboriginal Party of Australia (IAPA).
Wilcannia remembered
Standing alone near the table and seats adjacent to the footpath, a visitor, dressed in bike leathers, was very attentive to the Remembrance Day service. Following the service, as locals and other visitors gathered around the morning tea table, she remained alone and still.
