Just get some advice!
Recently, two mature peppercorn trees in White Cliffs were removed to make way for water pipes. Shirley Evans (nee Riley), who now lives in Wilcannia, was born under one of those trees in 1937. She says, 'When I was an adult I went back to that tree a few times with Mum ... I was really disappointed to think that they'd cut that tree down.'
Assistant Minister for Indigenous Health visits Wilcannia
Last Friday Senator Malarndirri McCarthy made a not well publicised visit to Wilcannia. Word soon went round town and a number of locals were able to tell her of their health and other concerns. The Senator toured the hospital where she met some staff, the new Maari Ma health building, and met with representatives of the Wilcannia Local Aboriginal Land Council.

The Shires Administrator Bob Stewart reported on a meeting he had with the NSW Minister for Local Government, Hon. Ron Hoenig and the Minister for Water, the Hon. Rose Jackson. Bob reported that the Minister is keen to bring the Shire out of Administration however he also understands the challenges faced by Council in a number of areas, including day-today operations and financial sustainability.
Wilcannia Central School visits the Heart of Australia
Nadia. Last term 17 students and six staff participated in a major excursion to Uluru and the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in the Far North of South Australia ... The group was lucky to experience some rarely seen events; waterfalls on Uluru and it shrouded in cloud and mist.
New houses delivered
Two 2 bedroom homes built in Wagga, by Adaptive Interiors, transported here and welded on foundations by Zac Pirie Welding and Fabrications. This is one of the 3 town blocks sold to the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office for $1-00 per block.
Sydney Youth Orchestra SYO – 10 day Big West tour
Two buses and a small truck are carrying the 70-member Sydney Youth Orchestra and an ensemble of assistants on a 10 day – 6 town tour, beginning in Dubbo, then Wilcannia, Broken Hill, Mildura, Deniliquin and finally Cowra.
Resin workshop
The White Cliffs Craft group organised a Resin workshop led by local, Tallon Towers. From jewellery to coated rocks, there was an amazing array of creative projects.
