Hay drops costly membership
Council has relinquished its membership with RAMJO (Riverina and Murray Joint Organisation) following a steep increase in its annual fee. This is despite a recommendation from General Manager, David Webb to continue full membership for the 2025-26 financial year and then reassess Council's position. Cr John Perry vehemently opposed this, and called for Council to cut its losses now, resign from RAMJO and not pay the $30,000 fee.
Council calls for fair share of grant funding
Hay Shire Council has joined other Local Government Areas in their bid for a fair distribution of Financial Assistance Grants (FAGs) from both the Federal and State Governments. General Manager, David Webb said there is a general belief that the current model favours metropolitan regions over rural and remote councils.
Opposition Leader, Ley vows to put Farrer first
Newly appointed Leader of the Opposition, Sussan Ley has vowed she would continue to put the people of Farrer first. The Member for Farrer since 2001 was elected Opposition Leader of the Liberal Party last week and is one of the longest-serving female MPs in Canberra.
Two wind farms for Hay
Hay Shire Council has welcomed the announcement that Pottinger Wind Farm (Someva/AGL) and Bullawah Wind Farm (BayWa r.e) have been granted access under the South West Renewable Energy Zone Access Rights Scheme announced last Wednesday.
Council votes to revisit its shed policy
"Why do we have a shed policy?" The question was asked by Cr John Perry at last month's Hay Shire Council meeting when he objected to a Development Application for a shed outside of the policy guidelines. "We're opening a Pandora's Box," he said.
Council chasing water
Funding is being sought for Council to undertake test bores to identify a suitable ground water source for Hay. Council currently draws water from the Murrumbidgee River, but fears there could be a major risk on the water supply should the river water become unavailable or unsuitable.

Not quite a teenager yet, Dean Skinner of Booroorban and former Hay Public School student, fought his way at the weekend to take first place in the teens/adults division of the All Stars Martial Arts Academy's continuous karate sparring tournament.
The story behind the WWI handkerchief
A handkerchief issued during the First World War has made its way to Hay, in pristine condition. It belongs to Brian Cunningham of Gunbar who initially offered it to the War Memorial in Canberra, but decided to keep it in the family ... Brian’s handkerchief appears to be rather rare as no one has seen this particular design before.
