Sprints keep little Leyburn on the map

When the 27th Historic Leyburn Sprints hits the streets this weekend, it will be thanks to the efforts of local residents to keep their historic little town on the map. On that map, the town comprises around 350 residents, one post office, two churches, a school, pub, police station, general store and a handful of houses. Gowrie residents are concerned about the proposed North-South road corridor that will "split Gowrie in two" to provide easy transport from Highfields and Westbrook to Charlton. The atmosphere at last Thursday’s consultation meeting was tense.

Mates helping mates

The Commonwealth fraternity lives on through our firefighters, with a contingent of Queensland fires including Steve Benecke from the Cambooya Rural Fire Brigade (RFB) recently travelling to Canada to assist in firefighting. Exciting times ahead at Bracknell Lodge

After more than two and a half years since it was first applied for, Wyreema’s Bracknell Lodge can now become home to a horse equestrian arena after Toowoomba Regional Council gave its approval last week. Councillors had the final say at a special meeting held last Wednesday and gave their unanimous support for the development application.

Questions still remain

A meeting held at Westbrook on Monday night provided some clarity on the Department of Transport and Main Road’s (TMR) proposed Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor, however some details still remain a mystery. The meeting was organised by concerned community members in conjunction with Member for Condamine Pat Weir.

Taking Downs beef to the States

Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) has secured a grant which will enable it to bolster the Darling Downs’ and Queensland’s market share of grain-fed beef in the United States. In collaboration with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), TSBE is hoping to capture the immense potential for the growth of regional beef producers and the expansion of Queensland’s footprint in U.S. markets.

Record year for Toowoomba LifeFlight

Home to two rescue helicopters, Toowoomba is yet again LifeFlight’s busiest base with the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue and LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) chopper crews coming to the aid of a record 725 people last financial year.
