Local program inspires next generation of healthcare professionals

Across the Darling Downs and West Moreton regions, secondary school students are taking advantage of the opportunity for a glimpse into the day in a life of a health care worker through the PHN (Public Health Network) funded Aspire2Health program.

Climate Council suggests farmers unfairly treated

"Farmers are bearing the brunt of climate change through extreme weather while also facing the financial burden of implementing livestock feed changes to curb cow burps," Coal and Gas Campaigner at Queensland Conservation Council, Ben Pennings said. No plan to align town rates with Toowoomba’s

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald says Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is not working to bring the rates for towns into line with those being paid by Toowoomba city residents. “Toowoomba Regional Council is determined to tackle long term economic challenges head on,” Mayor McDonald said.

TRC trying new ‘community engagement’ model

Council has adopted a ‘Councillor Community Engagement Model’ put forward by Mayor Geoff McDonald. The model will see three areas outside of Toowoomba City given three councillors each year on a rotating basis.

No divisions for Toowoomba Region

Hope that some of the Toowoomba Region’s councillors will specifically represent those living outside of Toowoomba City has been quashed following a vote at last week’s Council meeting. Cr Kerry Shine was spearheading an electoral arrangement review which could see divisions brought to Toowoomba Regional Council, potentially providing areas outside of Toowoomba with their own councillor or councillors.

Local pub does its bit for hospice

The local pub at Greenmount, which sports the unusual name Get Chopped, threw its hat into the ring to help raise funds for the Toowoomba Hospice during this year’s Hang Ya Boss Out To Dry event. Publican Brendon Quirey volunteered to be hoisted skywards and became part of a highly successful event for 2024.

Nobby to be biosecurity surveillance target

Landholders in Nobby will be targeted by Toowoomba Regional Council’s Biosecurity Surveillance Program in the 2024/25 financial year. Nobby in one of six places in the region to be selected as a priority surveillance area for the upcoming year, alongside Athol, Gilla, Douglas, Malling and Dunmore.
