Working dogs show their skills
The Maclean Show Society committee is recovering after their biggest weekend in recent memory with great crowds enjoying the NSW Working Dog Stock Trial championships. The 2025 Clarence Valley Council and Maclean Show Society NSW State Championships Working Stock Dog Trial was held at Maclean Showground from July 25 to 27, with competitors vying for $5000 in prize money.
Town Hall meetings to be held
A minimum of two Town Hall meetings a year will be held in the upper and lower Clarence Valley after a motion to introduce the concept was carried in a split vote at the July Council meeting ... Cr Yager said the motion was aimed at holding a forum for open dialogue and community connection.
Could cost rate payers millions claims owners group
Council could be up for millions in legal fees to defend NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal NCAT proceedings against more than 100 semi-permanent caravan owners, claims the group. Owners of 136 holiday vans at 4 Council managed caravan parks situated on Crown Land at Brooms Head, Iluka, Minnie Water, and Wooli were sent letters in early March advising of the termination of long-term (casual occupation) agreements on June 30, 2025.

‘Radical’ noon bail cutoff challenged
Former prominent NSW Magistrate and Dean of Law at Southern Cross University, Professor David Heilpern has written to the NSW Chief Magistrate challenging new bail laws including a 12-noon cutoff he described as ‘radical’. A new bail division designed to streamline bail hearings across the state and deliver consistency in bail outcomes was introduced on July 7, where 6 virtual courtrooms will cover bail hearings from different regions.
Covid concerns at community meeting
The adverse effects of Covid vaccines and concerns about how the process was administrated by the government were heard at a community meeting at Maclean on Sunday ... Ms O’Hearn said close to 100 people attended the meeting at the former Maclean RSL Club to hear a presentation from former Barrister, prominent anti-vaccination advocate, Julian Gillespie and discuss their experiences.

Yamba hosts Bowls State Pennant Finals
Bowlers from across the state battled it out for glory on the greens at Yamba over the weekend in the Bowls NSW Grade 3 Open Pennant Final Series. Yamba Bowling Club Bowls Director Jayson Pinnock said the club played host to 240 male and female bowlers and their teams from the state’s top 16 Grade 3 clubs.
